Increase successful behavior management in four easy steps to make your job easier and reduce your stress!
How many work breaks didn’t you have because your hands were so full? How many lunch or dinner breaks did you have in which you couldn’t stop talking about the difficult behaviors and trying to manage them? There are so many demands and responsibilities and sometimes you wish that there was more caregiver help available.

"HELP! I am taking care of people who kick, yell, demand, hit, swear, go into others' rooms, rummage, steal, hoard, walk out of the building, and create dangerous situations for themselves, for others and for me!"
This is what I hear over and over again when I am working at nursing homes and providing geriatric behavior modification plans. The nurses, CNA's, social workers and staff are at wits end. Some residents present challenging geriatric care management issues to say the least. It's no wonder that you are so frazzled and sometimes feeling alone to deal with this. Writing a nursing care plan for the elderly isn't easy. Although some of these problems result from geriatric anxiety, many have to do with elderly depression, loss, adjustment and dementia.

In addition, you have to deal with families who always want the best for Mom or Dad, and blame you when things are rough. "Keep that guy away from my Mom!" "Why aren't you watching my father?" You also have the state surveyors come in to evaluate your work and find the nitty gritty errors, but they forget to say, "Wow, what a great job you do, taking care of all of these people." They get paid to list mistakes, not successes. So you are blamed and not often appreciated. And the state will tell you to do a behavior modification plan, but try asking them for a behavior modification example!

"As a director of nursing, I found this tool to be informative, easy to use and an invaluable asset to supplement our ongoing inservice program. 'Successful Behavior Management in LTC' is written in an easy to use format and the information is presented at the staff level of understanding. My nurses as well as CNAs have gained tremendous insight into caring for those with cognitive impairments."
