About Jeffrey Gold, Ph.D.
In the late 1980's, OBRA required restraint reduction in nursing homes, which required facilities to re-evaluate their uses of physical restraints and psychiatric medications, and to implement care strategies that minimize their uses. In response to this need, Dr. Gold, a psychologist with clinical behavioral geriatric experience, began providing assessment, psychological evaluation, psychotherapy and behavioral management and care planning services at nursing homes, assisted living, and continuing care facilities in several states. Working with nurses, CNA's, social workers, and other staff, he tried different approaches until there was success. Dr. Gold has hired and trained over 100 psychiatrists, psychologists, nurse practitioners and clinical social workers to provide behavioral and mental health services to residents in over 150 long term care facilities. |
In addition to providing clinical services, Dr. Gold has taught topics such as mental health, behavioral management and care planning, behavior modification, restraint reduction, geriatric mental health, health care compliance, billing and documentation, and Medicare, Medicaid, Case Mix, and OBRA Regulations at statewide and national meetings of long term care and mental health professionals. He has instructed an Assisted Living Administrator licensure training class and presented at the first Annual Federal Restraint Reduction Conference. Dr. Gold has also taught psychology at the university level.
